A ‘DAM GOOD
TOURNAMENT! Churchill Champs But Everyone Was a Winner! Indoor footballers from all across
the RBS Group shone on the European stage recently, at the ever-popular RBS
Trophy tournament in Amsterdam. Once again the event produced some hugely-enjoyable
competition played in a great spirit. In the end, free-scoring
Churchill Stockton (left, above) notched the overall title of RBS Futsal
Champions while there were some splendid showings from the likes of Edinburgh
Group Technology (who scooped an historic THIRD group trophy), Intermediary
Partners Norwich and RBS Netherlands. Tournament Director William
Walker commented: “We had a great mix of ‘veterans’ and debutants this year
and I was very impressed at how well the new teams adapted to the different
style of football. The guys were superb ambassadors for RBS, on and off the
pitch.” |

Graeme Ritchie from Group
Technology added: “It was a fabulous tournament – the best yet!” while Barend
van der Maas of RBS Netherlands enthused: “I sure can say we enjoyed
ourselves!” Well done to all concerned … and
roll on 2008! ____________________ |

GROUP C A DUTCH OF CLASS! The opening group was a home triumph
for Barend van der Maas and his RBS NL Houten side
who stormed to victory with a 100% record. Ulster Bank’s B team finished a
very respectable second while the Dubliners’ A side and NIG London also played
their part on an excellent and very sporting afternoon of futsal. |

GROUP A CHURCHILL’S V.E. DAY! Joe Hughes’ Churchill Stockton stormed
to victory with a free-scoring display in Group A which catapulted them into
pole position for the overall title. However Investor Relations, captained by
Ben Franz-Marwick, and Sean O’Brien’s First Active
Cork can take much from their first appearance at Eurofives. Indeed the new
boys’ 1-1 draw was one of the most enthralling matches of the tournament! |

GROUP D JONESEY JOY! This was a high-tempo affair with little between all four teams. Chris Astley’s Bristol CLC and Andy O’Cain’s Inter-Group Farnham were both just one game away from topping the section while Ulster Bank Cork, skippered by Peter Aherne, can count themselves very unlucky not to have recorded better results. In the end though, it was Matt Jones’ IP Norwich team who deservedly topped the pile thanks to their consistent displays and resolute defending. |

GROUP B JULIËN BRAVO! Colm O’Leary’s sprightly young Ulster Bank Dublin side played themselves into a great position and were only thwarted by a class showing from RDE Netherlands, under skipper Juliën Greve. Meanwhile the entrants from NIG weighed in with some sensational goals and a hugely-entertaining ‘NIG derby’ when Chris McAloon’s Ashington edged out Wayne Chester’s Maidstone. |

GROUP E MAC THE KNIFE! ‘The Group of Death’ lived up to
all expectations. Chris Jackson’s IT Services London, bolstered by scoring
sensation Andrew Batty, gave another fine account of themselves
while Neil Galloway’s Edinburgh Rovers side manfully stuck to their task
despite their injury problems. Edinburgh’s Group Tech Futsal Wanderers eventually
notched an historic third trophy triumph after a dramatic see-saw battle with
Glasgow Business Managers. |
