CUP OF CHEER!

A Fantastic Afternoon of Futsal

THE SECOND Willow Cup tournament produced an engrossing double-header on Saturday. Teams from both the UK and The Netherlands came together in Van Hogendorp sporthal to participate in a memorable event which raised £1,500 for the Willow Foundation.

There was no shortage of action, or indeed goals, as the British sides all showed up superbly on their Eurofives debut. After two groups and twelve keenly-contested encounters, the silverware went to the teams representing Carling London and Airbus.

Here’s how the groups were won:

OLLIE GOOD SHOW!

The early group was as tight as it gets with the three UK sides battling out a rip-roaring contest.

Adam Vidal’s lively Search Tech side looked to be in the driving seat after two hard-fought victories over RBS Netherlands and Mark Gardham’s impressive Interserve.

But there was to be a sensational twist in the tale in the final match, when Ollie Hurrey stepped up to ram home a dramatic last-gasp winner for Carling, giving the Londoners the trophy on goal difference.

An epic encounter!

AIR WE GO!

Tom Knight’s Airbus topped the late group with an excellent all-round team performance and some moments of magic from Tony Wimpenny.

The steady improvement from Michael Foster’s Reed Smith allowed them to claim a creditable Willow runners-up spot while Patrick Kingston’s Capcount showed enough to suggest that, with a bigger squad, they could be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

And as expected, Sander Morshuis and his FSL Amsterdam team kept the visitors on their toes.

Well done to all the players and supporters!
