PLANE BRILLIANT!

Airbus Make it Three-in-a-Row

The 2009 Willow Cup kicked off last weekend at Amsterdam’s Van Hogendorp Sportcentrum. Two keenly-contested groups were played in a great spirit once again.

In Group A, the high-flying “veterans” from Airbus (right) came through to clinch their third consecutive trophy. Skipper Tony was again in devastating form, finding the net in every game and clinching victory with a superb hat-trick against Interserve, who found their shooting boots just a little late in the day this time.

As the group’s top scorers, SNS can be very proud of their showing while local side Huxley again competed well and notched an historic first Eurofives victory!

IN THE PINK!

Trafigura Show Their Metal

Group B was a tight affair, but it was Anthony and the boys from Trafigura Pink (right) who scooped the prize, despite a hugely-impressive debut performance from Aldo’s Telespazio Roma, the Italians playing some of the nicest football ever seen at Eurofives!

All the teams contributed to a fine Saturday of action - Informa took the group to the last match while Trafigura Whites provided some great entertainment in the company ‘derby’.

SAT’LL DO NICELY!

Sukumaran winner seals Victory for London

GROUP C of the 2009 Willow Cup saw many different nationalities of indoor footballers light up the European stage as the tournament concluded with some exciting action.

In the end, it was Vinesh Patel’s PFC London (right) who lifted the Group Trophy with a dramatic Final victory over Rikiya Ikeshita’s talented Sporting Martinus. A sensational late winner from Sathish Sukumaran stunned the Amstelveen team who had topped the pool stage with 10 points from their four matches.

Meanwhile Niels Boswinkel’s Venhoeven CS battled bravely in spite of squad difficulties and ensured the other teams had to play well for their results.

The Willow Cup is a fantastic opportunity for five-a-side players to experience playing in Europe.”

- Dennis Bergkamp

ABOUT WILLOW

The Willow Foundation is a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 through the provision of special days. It was established by former Arsenal and Scotland star Bob Wilson and his wife Megs in memory of their daughter Anna (below right) who died of cancer aged 31.

"Special days returned the smile to Anna's face at a time when her life had taken a very different path to that of her peers. We knew that if special days worked for her, they would work for others too.

“I know the lads really enjoy the Eurofives weekends as a memorable team-building exercise so I very much hope that you and your company can support this exciting tournament and, by doing so, help create a special day for someone very deserving.”
