HOWAY THE LADS!

Durham Delight as Interserve Take the Cup

Willow Cup 2010 continued to live up to all expectations with another festival of futsal in De Pijp Sportcentrum.

With over sixty players taking part, there was no shortage of goals or excitement, as both first-round groups went to the wire.

And there was medal joy for some Eurofives veterans!

Interserve Blacks joyously lifted the trophy, and with it the 2010 overall title, following an Anglo-Italian showdown with the expertly-organised Telespazio Rome.

Meanwhile their colleagues Interserve Stripes secured a bronze finish, courtesy of a shoot-out win over SNS who once again provided great entertainment for the onlookers.

There were other commendable showings too: debutants Angel were their group’s top scorers while fellow first-timers Ebullio notched a notable win over finalists Telespazio.

And although Trafigura and Informa didn’t make the play-offs this time, they both proved worthy competitors as always.

Winning skipper Tony Porter of Interserve commented: "The victory was based on hard work from a team effort and the tournament was the best yet!"

Roll on 2011!

A SHOT AT GLORY!

Penalty Drama on Opening Willow Weekend

The FIFTH Eurofives Willow Cup kicked off on Saturday in De Pijp Sportcentrum.

The five teams produced a fantastic tournament which concluded with a dramatic, nail-biting finale.

The impressive Ulster Bank Dublin Reds topped the group stage with an unbeaten record but they were eventually pipped for the silverware by the never-say-die SPM Amstelveen.

Ulster Bank Whites, Huxley Associates and debutants Lloyds BG London all played their part in what was a hugely-enjoyable afternoon of futsal.

ABOUT WILLOW

The Willow Foundation is a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 through the provision of special days. It was established by former Arsenal and Scotland star Bob Wilson and his wife Megs in memory of their daughter Anna (below right) who died of cancer aged 31.

"Special days returned the smile to Anna's face at a time when her life had taken a very different path to that of her peers. We knew that if special days worked for her, they would work for others too.

“I know the lads really enjoy the Eurofives weekends as a memorable team-building exercise so I very much hope that you and your company can support this exciting tournament and, by doing so, help create a special day for someone very deserving.”
